Successful 46th Edition of the Spud!
2023-02-07Congratulations and thank you to all participants and volunteers!
Thank you and congratulations to all participants, supporters, and volunteers who made the 46th Annual Ladner's Source for Sports Spud Minor Hockey Tournament a resounding success.
Champions
The Spud is always a marathon, not a sprint, and to be crowned Spud Champion is a significant accomplishment. We saw host U11 AA Charlottetown Abbies lift the trophy. The U13 AAA NB East Lynx won in an overtime thriller. The Western Regals scored late in the 3rd period to take the title in a back-and-forth finale. Congratulations as well to the runners-up, U11 AA Dieppe/Memramcook Aigles, U13 AAA Eastern Knights, and U18 AAA Mid-Isle Matrix. The Knights were the fourth team from Newfoundland to ever reach a Spud final (and the fourth Newfoundland team to do so in the past two tournaments).
The Drew Power Leadership Award was presented to Camden MacKinnon from the U11 AA Charlottetown Abbies. This award is based on an outstanding work ethic, striving for team goals above personal goals, inspiring teammates, loving hockey, and commitment to the game.
The Jeff Mobbs Memorial Award was presented to Luke Rowell from the U11 AA Charlottetown Abbies. This is awarded to the top defenceman in the U11 championship game.
The Stu MacFadyen Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Andrea MacNeill. Andrea has put countless hours into making sure the hospitality room is fully stocked and running smoothly!
Upcoming Spud Tournaments
The 47th Annual Ladner's Source for Sports Spud Minor Hockey Tournament will take place February 1st-4th, 2024. The 48th Annual will take place January 30th to February 2nd, 2025.
