45th Annual PEI Source for Sports Spud Minor Hockey Tournament Wrap-Up
2020-02-03Thanks to all participants, volunteers, and spectators for another great year in the books!
We would like to extend a sincere thanks and congratulations to all volunteers and participants involved in the 45th Annual PEI Source for Sports Spud Minor Hockey Tournament. This article contains a list of 2020 Champions, award winners, game tapes, and 50/50 results.
Champions
This weekend was a long battle involving much effort and teamwork, and to be able to find success in The Spud is a feat that should be held in high regard. The championship games were all close and exciting match-ups. The Atom and Peewee divisions saw teams find success far from home, with Glace Bay taking home the Atom title and St. John's winning the Peewee division. This also marks the first time a team from Newfoundland won a Spud division, after the TriCom Thunder were the first team from the province to reach a final in last year's Spud. The Bantam division was successfully defended by the host Central Attack. The Midget championship game was a thrilling comeback overtime win, also by the host Central Attack. While the weekend is full of successes large and small, we would like to give a special shoutout to teams from Dartmouth, as a Whalers team reached the final game in Atom, Peewee, and Bantam divisions.
Internal Spud Awards
Volunteer of the Year honours went to a dynamic duo who have kept Simmons Arena running smoothly for the past number of years. Dave MacIsaac and Terry Duffy can always be found with a smile on their faces at Simmons Arena on Spud weekends. Keep a look out for them next year!
Congratulations as well to Midget AAA Central Attack player Chris Koughan on winning the Drew Power Leadership Award. This award is based on an outstanding work ethic, striving for team goals above personal goals, and inspiring teammates, loving hockey, and commitment to the game.
