The 44th Annual PEI Source for Sports Spud Minor Hockey Tournament begins Thursday, January 31st and runs through Sunday, February 3rd, 2019. The tournament opens Thursday afternoon at 3:45 P.M. at the MacLauchlan Arena, and culminates with championship games beginning Sunday afternoon at 12:00 P.M., also in the Bell Aliant Centre. The Spud Tournament attracts the top minor hockey teams from Atlantic Canada in Atom, Peewee, Bantam, and Midget divisions. The Spud is one of the largest hockey tournaments in the region each year. This tournament has been host to many notable alumni including local businesspeople and NHL stars, including Al McAdam, Adam McQuaid, Sidney Crosby, and Nathan MacKinnon.
67 teams from across Atlantic Canada will play a total of 140 games over the four-day stretch on eight ice surfaces in and around Charlottetown. Games at the Bell Aliant Centre on Championship Sunday will be streamed live at http://360go.live/q24. The Spud generates an influx of several thousand people to the Charlottetown area, boosting the local economy during the tourism shoulder season. This major event is the primary fundraiser for the Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association.
The committee would like to acknowledge title sponsor, PEI Source for Sports, hospitality room sponsor Cavendish Farms, livestream sponsor Rodd Hotels & Resorts, and divisional sponsors Little Caesars, Subway, Provincial Credit Union, and Coach Atlantic Group.
